PLIGHT OF AIDS ORPHANS IN ZIMBABWE

I am a 52 year old HIV+ ZIMBABWEAN man. I have been on treatment since 2004 when I enrolled to participate in the Development of AntiRetroviral Treatment in Africa "DART" study/trials program. At the time of enrollment my CD4 count was only five "5". My wife is HIV- so we are a discordant couple. Official statistics in Zimbabwe report that for every four "4" children, one "1" is an orphan mostly because of HIV&AIDS and my concern is the plight of the innocent and vulnerable children - their livelihood - education, food, shelter, clothing, a family environment, etc. Though the government assists through the Ministries of Health & Childwelfare and Social Services but it is overwhelmed by the large number of orphans and vulnerable children to the extent that is failing to provide the basic needs of all these children and there are other stakeholders like UNICEF, Non-Governmental Organizations, Churches and other charitable and humanitarian organizations who try to bridge the gap but still it is not enough. Most of these children live in child-headed families, some are cared for by poor and elderly relatives "grandparents" in most cases and only a few are accommodated in orphanages "homes". I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE CARE OF THESE ORPHANS & VULNERABLE CHILDREN AS MUCH AS I CAN, BUT I AM CONSTRAINED BY RESOURCES. HOW CAN YOU ASSIST? In the meantime I am in the process of establishing a Trust - TREATMENT ROLL-OUT INITIATIVE TRUST "TROIT" for UNIVERSAL ACCESS TO TREATMENT with particular focus on HIV-TB co-infection which is prevalent within the sub-Saharan region. I hereby grant you express permission to share information contained herein with individuals and organizations that you may consider to be of interest, who can be in a position to assist in whatever way.
